Texas Hold'em Poker Rules

Texas Holdem has become the most popular poker game being played in the US today. Texas Holdem can be played in a variety of casinos, cardrooms and online Internet poker rooms. Although Texas Holdem and its rules are simple it is considered by many to have the most strategy of all poker games.

Texas Holdem Rules:

The game is played with anywhere from 2 players in head to head competition up to 11 players, typically a texas holdem game will include 9 or 10 poker players.

The object of texas holdem is to form the best 5 card poker hand possible from both the 2 player cards, also know as Pocket Cards or Hole Cards dealt to the player and the 5 community cards dealt to the table.

Texas Holdem Poker hands follow typical poker hand ranking and the highest hand wins.

A typical Texas Holdem poker game is played as follows:

Pocket Cards / Hole Cards:

The dealer deals each holdem player two (2) cards face down. These cards are available only to the player to whom they’ve been dealt.

After the Hole cards have been dealt the first round of betting occurs, this is the 1st Round of betting.

The Flop:

Once the initial round of betting has taken place the dealer deals three (3) cards face up on the table, this is referred to as The Flop. These are referred to as community cards that all players can use to form their hands. Combining the 2 hole cards with the 3 community cards gives the holdem player an initial hand of 5 cards.

After The Flop another round of betting takes place, this is the 2nd Round of betting.

The Turn:

After The Flop and the 2nd round of betting is completed the dealer deals a fourth community card also know as The Turn, the holdem players try to use this card if possible to strengthen their hands.

After The Turn another round of betting takes place, this is the 3nd Round of betting.

The River:

After The Turn and the 3rd round of betting is completed the dealer deals a fifth and last community card to the table, also known as the River Card, the holdem players try to use this card if possible to strengthen their hands.

After The River the last round of betting takes place, this is the 4th and final Round of betting.

The Showdown:

The players that remain in the hand show their cards to see who has the strongest hand with the bettor showing first, the strongest as per the poker hand rankings wins the pot.

Any player can get out of the hand, or fold, at any time thereby losing all claim to the pot and their previous bets. Also, when the 5 community cards make the best hand then all players split the pot.
